About 30 years ago, while living in Southern California, I was invited
to a friend's home for dinner.....well, I thought it was dinner. I expected
an enjoyable, relaxing evening of good food and lively conversation.....I
even took a nice bottle of wine.
However, immediately upon entering the home, I knew something was amiss.
There was a projector and screen where the couch used to be. There were
bottles and boxes of stuff all round the living room where vases, sculpture
and pottery had been displayed just the day before.
This was my first introduction to network marketing.......my first
introduction to the network marketing industry, to the network marketing
opportunity, to the network marketing business plan, to circles and
diagrams and those things that make people think network marketing
is an illegal pyramid scheme.......
Needless to say, I was not happy. I did not buy any products and I
decided then and there that the network marketing industry was a scam.
A definite bad taste was left in my mouth......a taste even my really
good bottle of wine would not dissolve.
OK, now fast forward to the year 2001. I am living in the Ozarks and
I own a golf course near Branson, Missouri. Along comes one of my
members who begins telling me about a way I can save a lot of money........AAANNNDDDD
there's a way to make a lot of money, too......on a very part time
basis (Ding! Ding!! Ding!!!)
Really fast and really LOUD I say "I'M NOT INTERESTED IN NETWORK
MARKETING. I'M NOT EVEN CONSIDERING AN MLM BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY. I'D
RATHER BE BROKE THAN DO ONE OF THOSE ILLEGAL PYRAMID NETWORK MARKETING
THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
You get the picture?? I was not open.
But, I was working 60, 70, 80 hours a week. I decided............for
things to change, I had to change. So, I began in investigate the
network marketing, the MLM industry. Do you know what I found out?
Here's an example:
In 1995 Maybeline, MaxFactor and Cover Girl grossed $150 Million in
revenue and spent $50 Million advertising dollars to reach those sales
figures. That same year a little company called Mary Kay Cosmetics
grossed $200 Million in revenue and do you know how much advertising
money they spent? ZERO dollars. Now, THAT'S the network marketing
industry. As a business owner, I understood those numbers and the
word-of-mouth concept.
I found out that today network marketing is an $80 Billion industry
world-wide....Billion, with a B. The U.S. market alone accounts for
approximately $35 Billion.
There are over 35 million Network Marketing distributors worldwide
with more than 10 Million working in the U.S. Women make up 65% of
the network marketers world wide, senior citizens account for about
8% and more than 10% of the network marketing population are people
with physical challenges.
Every single week more than 55,000 people in the U.S. alone sign up
as network marketers........
400,000 per week world wide! Netwrok Marketing is a huge industry.
Why is this industry growing so fast.........faster than franchises,
according to Robert Kiyosaki in his book Business School.
I heard Jerry Clark speak at a convention in Little Rock, Arkansas
and he said "Network marketing is a personal growth program disguised
as a business." I found that he's exactly right. The network
marketing industry is built by people improving themselves and helping
others grow, as well.
Network marketing is about people helping people........helping each
other get ahead......helping each other earn better incomes..........helping
each other have more prosperous lifestyles.
Bottom line: For things to change, you have to change, and you, and
you, and me.
Oh yeah, about that illegal pyramid scheme thing.......
Do you know that in the average Fortune 500 company with $2 BILLION
in revenue and 20,000 employees, only 70 employees earn in excess
of $100,000??
How many people are at the top of IBM? ONE.
And how many are at the bottom? at last count exactly 43.6 GAZILLION.
What are the chances of starting at the bottom of IBM (say, in the
maintenance department, for example) and reaching the top position?
Pretty much Zero Chance, huh?
Well, in network marketing everyone starts at the bottom and anyone
can go to the top. ANY ONE.
This is an industry of unlimited income. Any One can earn a six
figure income if they work hard, set goals, plug into their network
marketing company's system, and stick with it.
For things to change, You have to change.
If someone had told me 4 years ago that I'd be working full-time
in the network marketing industry I'd have told them they were crazy.
But, here I am. And my life is significantly better for it!
I decided: For things to change, I had to change. So, I did. How
