Is Network Marketing Turning You Into A Tow Truck?
Millions of us consistently work our network marketing business from
home. Millions of us see the Big Picture and absolutely believe networking
is the only avenue to be on for creating significant wealth. And, do
you know what? For us, that is absolutely correct!
Here's where we "Absolute Believers" can run into trouble.........we
think everyone should see this industry the way we do. I'm open to hearing
differing opinions, but I think some of us become tow trucks. I know
I've certainly been a tow truck (in the past!).
Aren't there people you know...some of them are likely in your networking
organization right now... that you know NEED this industry. You know
they need the money. You know they need the time freedom. You know they
could do it if they only would. You know they'd be great, if they'd
just apply themselves. You know they could be the one to catapult you
to the top of your business, if they would just ___________(you fill
in the blank).
BUT, for some reason, they just won't do what's required. They won't
consistently get on the weekly conference calls. They won't regularly
attend the meetings. They won't make 3-way calls on the days they promise
they will. They won't generally attend local or regional rallys.......certainly
not national events.
What's the problem?? They don't "get it"!
Know what? You probably want this more for them than they want it for
themselves. Then you become a tow truck! You try to "tow"
them to the calls, to the meetings, to do what they need to do to be
successful....you try to tow them across the line.
That does NOT work, does it? I read somewhere that 80% more energy is
expended trying to get someone to "get it" than to find someone
new. What if you spent your time talking with new prospects instead
of trying to motivate some of the dead weight you're carrying in your
group?
Here's what I finally figured out. I think it's my obligation to train
a new business partner. It's my obligation to be sure the new person
knows how to order product, marketing tools and supplies (Yes, I do
supply some aps, DVDs and info to my new folks). It's my obligation
to be sure the new person knows the mechanics of 3-way calls, has a
call list and is familiar with my company's marketing system. It's my
obligation teach the new person the language needed to prospect, offer
to help with initial calls, schedule appointments and go on presentations
with the newbie until he/she is comfortable enough to move forward alone.
After that, it's up to the new business partner to call me. There's
the KEY. Network marketing training is imperative. But your new business
partners need to have the drive and initiative to CALL YOU.
When I first got into my business I called my host (sponsor) and others
I was introduced to in my upline. I clled them all the time. I thought
they would finally say "Mickie, leave me alone. You're calling
too much, You're asking too many questions." HA! Little did I know
at that time that they were more excited about me calling them than
I was about the opportunity I saw with network marketing.
Look for those people who call YOU. Stop being a tow truck. The one's
you have to tow aren't worth the effort.........and once you stop trying
to do everything for them, they may figure out this is their business
and they want it to work!
Spend your time inviting new people to check out your business. Look
for someone like YOU. Somebody who is excited right out of the blocks
and isn't blown away after a few no's. Stop being a tow truck.
You'll have more energy. You'll feel better about the time you spend
building your business. You'll have less fear and more fun when you've
got other people in your business hosting folks, too.
Don't let your network marketing business turn you into a tow truck.
Become a good "inviter"...spend your time in the positive
realm of prospecting. You'll feel better for it and, I bet, you'll have
a lot more fun!
